^a frequent occurrence is that “the main effect of policy X is an informational treatment”, and this screws up a lot of people trying to write diff-in-diff papers who do not realize what happened (a hypothetical example: the Obamacare debate raising the salience of Medicaid and increasing takeup, at the same time as Medicaid expansion. I don’t know if this one is true!)
