Median lifetime consumption > median income > median wealth. First > b/c more skewed incomes *over* lifecycle keep median high vs individual lifetime income. Second b/c age, precautionary savings + housing v rent dominate. NZ not 4x richer at median than Germany! An example: 1/3

Surprising (not really) stat from the new UBS Global Wealth Report 2026.
The US ranks #2 when you look at average (mean) wealth per adult, but drops to #28 when you look at the median.

Ivy League schools have the highest rates of disabilities and community colleges have the lowest.
The percentage of students with disabilities is inversely related to how elite the higher education setting is.
Obviously something is wrong with what’s happening here.

The labor market went thru 4 massive non-AI shocks simultaneously: 1) bullwhip from Great Resignation, 2) high inflation/interest rates, 3) pervasive WFH, 4) rise & fall in immigration. Not only tough to id any AI effects, but until recently, AI plausibly the *smallest* of these.

Which aid donors are most progressive, i.e., spend the highest % of their money in the poorest countries?
No surprise, but one pattern that jumps out: multilateral funds (World Bank's IDA, Gavi, Global Fund, African Development Bank's ADF) are much more progressive than big

Remember the op-eds and open letters to Bernanke in 2009 and 2010 warning of currency debasement and hard-to-control long-term inflation? (Probably brought on by high growth in the monetary base.) And what happened? Inflation remained below target for over a decade.

@JonSteinsson The economists who still think money is important tend to prefer Divisia measures. And these didn't move much in and after the crisis.
I'm not denying those op eds existed of course. But the lack of inflation post crisis doesn't kill the case for the importance of money.

(haven't sold myself on Divisia yet but it's intriguing)

44% of Muslim Americans surveyed view Hamas favorably.
Almost half support an organization whose founding charter explicitly calls for the genocide of Jews, and which less than three years ago massacred 1,200 people in the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust.

This week in @TheEconomist I wrote about the incredible progress that we have been making against dementia. Though total numbers are rising (because we are living longer), the actual rate at every age has been coming down sharply for decades. A short 🧵 1/

What a bizarre graph. ~flat 1991-2013, 25% growth 2013-2016, flat 2016-2026 excepting covid. What could possibly cause this? Better cameras/instagram? The increase was exceptionally broad-based

U.S. National Park attendance is up by 25M visits over the past 15 years. I am glad that more people are enjoying them - we have the best natural landscapes in the entire world.
But consider that there are a finite number of national parks and we can't exactly expand them as https://t.co/5f5M1Q1YRN
