^the big picture is that there has been a lot of backlash against all “experts”. Is it worse for economists? Plausibly?
I think this Matt Yglesias comment also adds important context: the natsec establishment wanted to decouple from China. Mainline economists took the view that this would have costs (even if also, possibly, benefits). So, there was a turn to those who were more supportive of such policies
